We have a beautiful pizza oven sitting in our garden and I am ashamed to admit, due to circumstances over the past few years that have been out of my control, the oven has sat unused for over 5 years! Toby was determined to rectify this and kept asking if we could do pizza. Well, today was the day. The girls were out shopping with Mutti. So Toby and I did jobs and got the oven ready for dinner. Toby helped gather the wood and we dusted off the oven and started a fire, oh boy, do I like fire.

Fire time!

Once the fire was taken care of I hit the Bourke Street Café recipe for the pizza dough set that to prove and got the chorizo, lamb, sautéed onions ready while Toby grated the cheese. The girls arrived home at the perfect time for us to start dinner. The first pizza was perfect, we were so happy. Pizza number two was not so perfect and I scratched my head and started to experiment. Number three and four were starting to improve. Ah, number five was a triumph and six fantastic! But, by then we were pizzaed out.

Now, that I have discovered to do the following:

  • Restoke the fire after each pizza and cover the cooking area with coals
  • Roll out the pizza bases really thin
  • Be stingy on toppings as it cooks the base quickly
  • Take your time

I see many more pizza parties popping up periodically!
